"Discover the Enchanting Birdlife of Subic Bay From the Lens of Young Photographer Vinz Pascua" by Gelyka Ruth Dumaraos

Bird enthusiasts and nature lovers are in for a treat as young photographer Vinz Pascua unveiled Birds of Subic Bay, a groundbreaking book that captures the diversity of bird species in one of the Philippines’ top birding destinations. The book was recently launched last November 21, 2024, at the Promenade of Ayala Malls Harbor Point in Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

Pascua, 22, showcased 101 bird species thriving in this iconic Philippine birding destination, from elusive Philippine endemics to seasonal migrants and local residents. The photos were taken during the COVID-19 lockdown, where Pascua found time to stroll around his hometown in Subic and rediscover bird photography through his father, Alain Pascua, President of the Wild Bird Photographers of the Philippines, Inc.

Each species was captured through vibrant, high-resolution photographs, bringing their unique charm to life. Complementing the visuals, the book provides fascinating insights into each bird’s characteristics and highlights the top birding hotspots in Subic Bay.

This work is also a tribute to the Ayta Ambala people, the stewards of Subic Bay’s birds and forests. Each bird species is paired with its Ayta Ambala name, celebrating the rich native language and culture of this Indigenous community.

The book highlighted Pascua’s talent in bird photography and graphic design, inviting readers to join him in appreciating the wonders of Philippine biodiversity.

The event was part of the 32nd Anniversary of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority and will feature SBMA Chairman and Administrator Eduardo Jose Aliño as the guest of honor.
